We are seeking individuals who are both creative and detail-oriented, who like working with food, with people, and with numbers. For these volunteer positions, we recommend that individuals work a minimum of 16 hours per week, for at least 10 weeks. The suggested time frame is listed below with each program, but these time periods are somewhat flexible. Volunteers, if at all possible, should have a valid driver’s license and transportation.

Volunteer Marketing/Communications & Special Events assistants help with the operation and coordination of various events throughout the year, such as festivals (for example, BaconFest, Asheville Wine & Food Festival, Mother Earth News Fair), The Big Tasty (a contest to discover the best new food business), and the Holiday Marketplace at Blue Ridge Food Ventures. Activities focus on information management and marketing around creating events that will attract visitors and interest in Blue Ridge Food Ventures clients and activities.
Responsibilities include: preparing and assembling promotional materials, assisting with event coordination, research and administrative activities and assisting with social media projects.
This position is designed to provide a volunteer with practical, hands-on experience in a variety of marketing and event-planning projects related to developing and promoting local, small businesses.
- Detail oriented and organized
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proficient in graphic design software (such as Adobe Creative Suite) would be a plus
- Interest in promoting local food based businesses
- Proficient in using various social media
- Photography and video experience a plus
