Fall 2008 - "How to Start a Food Business" (five week series)
Join us for this comprehensive overview of the specialty food industry. This class will meet five times with the final exercise being a taste testing of class participants' food products. Students must attend all classes in order to be involved in the final exercise. Topics covered will include Food Industry Basics, Regulatory Compliance and Legal Issues, Packaging and Branding and more. (15 hrs) Total Registration Fee: $25.00

Blue Ridge Food Ventures (BRFV), an initiative of Advantage-West Economic Development Group and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, is a shared-use, value-added food processing center centrally located in Asheville to serve food entrepreneurs throughout western North Carolina. It provides services to those wishing to start or grow small businesses in the food industry, to local farmers who wish to add value to their products through processing, and to caterers and bakers needing a certified kitchen. This regional “kitchen incubator,” a first for North Carolina, joins others throughout the U.S. in spurring the development of small businesses, promoting local agriculture and creating jobs.
Blue Ridge Food Ventures, LLC is recognized as an eligible purpose within AdvantageWest's 501 (c) 3, non-profit, and comes under the inspection of the Food and Drug Administration, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the Buncombe County Health Center.
